RapidStudio supports Bottomup

We've recently had the pleasure in dealing with an organisation called Bottomup.

Helene Rousseau from Bottomup created a Soft Cover Photo Book with pictures taken during the year of 2011 at the schools where they are involved.  RapidStudio printed the copies for them at no charge to show our appreciation for the commendable work they do with the learners in our schools.  Click here to view the photo book.

Read on to find out a little more about the organisation, the work they do and how you could get involved.

Their Vision:
"To instill a sense of pride, belonging and identity within learners at existing disadvantaged primary schools and to empower them with foundational skills for a better future."

They are involved with many projects at a couple of primary schools - including Physical Education, Life Orientation, Creative Arts, Literacy Support and Personal Development.  Browsing through their website or talking to one of the people involved, makes you excited and hopeful for the future of this country.  The work they do with these children is absolutely phenomenal.

The schools they are involved at include the following:
Perivale Primary School
Constantia Primary School
Parkwood Primary School
Lotus River Primary School

If you would like to get involved, here is how you can help.

They are constantly looking for tutors to assist them with this great task they have taken on of instilling pride, belonging and identity within these learners.  Become a tutor (Maths/English literacy Grade 1-7) or volunteer your skills (Public Relations / Event Planning etc.) and be part of this wonderful initiative.

Purchase a Bottomup T-Shirt or Hoodie from them or simply make a donation by paying a sum into their bank account.

I encourage you to visit the Bottomup website to read more about this organisation, or become a fan on their Facebook Page.  You will be inspired - guaranteed! - and maybe even motivated... who knows?

Tip 9 : Aligning and Spacing in Rapidstudio

We often want to create a collage of photo's as a page design. Most of the time we are not totally confident in creating this type of layout in Rapidstudio, as you have to be accurate in your aligning and spacing of pictures. In this tutorial I will be explaining how to create a collage of pictures on a page, as it covers most of the alignment and spacing topics.
I hope this tutorial will help you realise your design intent more accurately and efficiently.
You will probably start with a page layout something similar to this

We are going to start with top row of pictures. The following explanation only refers to the top row, we will be dealing with the rest of the images a bit later.
First of all we need to move the pictures next to each other horizontally to see if they will fit in the "Safe Area" of the page. In this example the pictures are too wide and overlap the safe area horizontally. Please note that you will have to leave a decent amount of space between the safe …

Paint By Shadow Canvases:

Paint By Shadow Canvases:
RapidStudio and CraftRoutes got back in touch with their inner artist in Pretoria last week.
CraftRoutes, a specialist arts and crafts shop in Pretoria, invited Paint-by-Shadow to be the flagship product at their annual exhibition in the Kolonnade Shopping Mall, Montana Park.

Our largest size (80 x 120 cm) canvas was placed on the stand and throughout the 6 days of exhibiting, the canvas was painted by myself (product developer), Sue Peddle (owner of CraftRoutes) and all the sales staff from the store.

The King Protea image was developed for Sue and her shop, which reflected the mood of Heritage Day.  This image also show cases the Proudly South African product Paint-by-Shadow truly is.

Have you always wanted to be an artist but thought it was too difficult?
We have developed an innovative new product called “Paint-by-Shadow. Paint-by-Shadow is a great starter product that takes any of the initial apprehension and unknowns out of the painting process.
