Geraldene's Lion Story

Geraldene Lombard has a fascination for lions and tigers. Over the years, she’s built several 1500-piece puzzles depicting her favourite animals, and those who know her well, are fully aware of this! She was truly touched when, out of the blue, a really good friend e-mailed her an unusual photograph of an ‘astonished-looking’ lion. Geraldene was captivated by this gorgeous picture.

“I made it my desktop background, and saved it as my cell phone’s background too! Couldn’t get enough of it!” she recalls.

In addition to building puzzles, Geraldene loves drawing and painting, too. She contemplated drawing the ‘astonished lion’ pic but felt it might be really difficult to do justice to. She figured that since she couldn’t paint this lion, she decided to have it printed on glass with an LED backlight to bring out the true colours in the picture.

She also found another picture of a lion and decided to draw and paint her version of the second lion picture.

Having received countless compliments of these two lion images in her study, she approached RapidStudio to create a split panel canvas set of the ‘astonished lion’ and she’s immensely happy with the result.

When asked what these two lion images mean to Geraldene, she explained, “The picture I painted is proof that, if you set your mind to something, and find it in yourself to believe that you can accomplish something quite difficult … then you can!  What I drew and painted shows that I can, and it also shows a deeper side to a person’s interests and efforts in something profound.”

“As far as the astonished lion picture goes, it tells me that true friends care about one. They know your passions, your fascinations, and take care to do little things for you. Every time I see the picture hanging in my study, it reminds me of the small gestures one friend can do for another. To me, it’s always the small things that count and that form part of my lifelong memories!” Geraldene says.

We agree with Geraldene! It’s the little things that count!

Tip 9 : Aligning and Spacing in Rapidstudio

We often want to create a collage of photo's as a page design. Most of the time we are not totally confident in creating this type of layout in Rapidstudio, as you have to be accurate in your aligning and spacing of pictures. In this tutorial I will be explaining how to create a collage of pictures on a page, as it covers most of the alignment and spacing topics.
I hope this tutorial will help you realise your design intent more accurately and efficiently.
You will probably start with a page layout something similar to this

We are going to start with top row of pictures. The following explanation only refers to the top row, we will be dealing with the rest of the images a bit later.
First of all we need to move the pictures next to each other horizontally to see if they will fit in the "Safe Area" of the page. In this example the pictures are too wide and overlap the safe area horizontally. Please note that you will have to leave a decent amount of space between the safe …

Creative Ideas for a Post-Holiday Photobook

Here’s how to turn your holiday photos into a creative, must-keep photobook.

Returning home after a holiday can leave you with the post-travel blues. As you wash your bikini, shake the sand out of your sneakers, and try to revive the house plants you haven’t watered for two weeks, you begin to long for the lazy days of a vacation.

But, just because you’re home, doesn’t mean the holiday fun is over. Gather your memories up and create a photobook of your trip. Putting it together is a fun way to keep the holiday feeling alive, plus you can look back on it, to get yourself ready for next December (or April. We’re coming for you, public holidays).

Create a #Hashtag If you went on holiday with a few friends or family members, make sure that everyone uploads their pics to Instagram using a unique hashtag you create, like #SmithFamilyHoliday2017. Check it doesn’t exist already! That way, when you create the photobook, you can search for the hashtag, and find every photo that was taken. An ea…
