Energy of the sun, now in your photobook
These days the growing pains of our country are really being felt and the RapidStudio team feels that being responsible in terms of our impact on the local community and the country at large is very important. We always try maintain an exceptional level of customer service, we want to be there when you need us. We’re also aware
of the escalating energy crisis that our country faces and how that could impact our availability. We've implemented a solution that will ensure we're able to provide top-notch customer care while helping the country’s
power grid and lessening our environmental footprint.
To do this, RapidStudio has installed the first of three stages of solar panels on
our roof. What does this mean? Well, the first stage alone covers 1/3 of our
total power consumption. This might not seem like a big deal, but the first
stage is projected to leave enough power on the grid for around 12* people's home usage throughout the day. Our diesel generator usage will be greatly reduced in the
event of a power outage, decreasing the environmental impact of the fuel’s use.
Along with the first phase of solar panels,
RapidStudio has implemented an updated lighting system in a portion of the
building. The new energy-saving lighting increases the longevity of the lights
while reducing waste. Along with the next stages of our solar panel installation, even
more of our lighting will be updated! We believe that pushing forward with new technologies as they become available on order to save power, become more self sufficient, and minimise our impact on the environment is key to being a successful South African country.
Now, you might be asking what this means
for you. All of these changes have great impacts on the power grid and
environment, but the solar panels and new lighting help us save money in the long term for more exciting projects, and enable us improved availability. We're also excited to hear about Elon Musk's new home battery project with Tesla, it sounds like it's going to be a great help with getting people off the grid, and giving people a more affordable way to supplement their home power usage with wind or solar.
We're really impressed with the results of the project so far, and it really couldn't have come through and turned on at a better time in terms of our country's energy crisis. If you're interested in getting off the grid, or supplementing your power usage responsibly with renewable energy, our installation was done by Mark Campbell, you can contact him on markc@oneenergy.co.za or 083 263 6595
* back of the envelope calculations based on googled monthly national averages and what we've generated over the past few days. - based on my own home usage, it would power about 7 of my 4 person homes which is 28 people's usage.
