Team Building @ Gold Reef City

Early Morning on Wednesday the 19th of August, I asked my flu if we could have "THE TALK", I’m sure there and then, it knew it was time for us to part ways. There was no way I was gonna miss Gold Reef City, just the week before someone asked me “when was the last time you did something for the first time?” and I couldn’t answer them. I was ready to take on the roller coasters.

Group photo of some of us before we started.

We’ve had so many team building sessions in the past but this was by far the best for me and for most of my colleagues. We were divided into 4 teams, Red, Blue, Green and Black for an Amazing Race type of challenge. I was in the Black Team, we wanted to win but we all decided that having fun was important too! We watched a 15 minute 4d movie, which was absolutely incredible but then, it was time for thrill ride number 1, the Tornado, just looking at it made my tummy turn and I unfortunately decided to sit it out, watching my team mates being tossed and turned around like they weighed nothing at all made me extremely queezy! the screams were so loud, this ride is definitely not for the faint hearted, at the same time- I have never seen smiles that wide, the adrenalin junkies like Stevie, Jaco and Fran were having the best time, as for poor me, I couldn’t understand this joy, I was frozen with fear at the thought of it!

We followed all the rules and went through all the check points, it was both fun & scary, we bumped into other teams at some checkpoints but paid them no attention because we were rivals. I felt a little better when I realised that other team members from other teams were sitting out some rides for different reasons and phobias, when we finally got to the finish line we realised we were 3rd which wasn’t so bad although we already had a happy dance routine prepared  for 1st position. We were happy to settle in 3rd because we know how much we enjoyed the day! The Navy Blue Team was first and Red Team came 2nd, but where was the Green Team?? They were M.I.A, we had to go & find them. While we were looking- I was TRICKED into going on the SCARIEST RIDE of them all, THE ANACONDA!! For the first time in my life, I felt skinny, the thing hung me in the air like I was made of tissue paper, It was the longest minute of my life, I closed my eyes so tight I saw heaven. I was scared in to complete silence, not even a peep came out of me.

Finally we found the green team, made fun of them a little bit, and then we had lunch. After lunch we went to all the other rides that we didn’t go on during the challenge, now as the one big team.  I decided to calm it down a little, and managed to convince some of the men to take me on the slowest ride in the place, so I went on a boat ride with Mikey, Memory and Jackson while everyone else was satisfying their need for speed. I was very happy with that.

Lunch at Barney's
Some crazies on the Tower of Terror.

Lastly was the Minors Revenge, I decided to brave this one, there was no way I was going to get teased for being a “wuss”, so I did it. It was awesome. This timed I screamed blue murder, I just wanted my mama. It was such a very cool experience & I am so glad I finally experienced a roller coaster, my boss is definitely cooler than yours.

Until the next Team Building……………………
