Getting creative for Mandela Day 2015

Mandela Day is a time for giving back, and the RapidStudio team spent its 67 minutes of service working on a very special project.

Fran painting a Frog

RapidStudio staff, family, and kids took from the Paint By Shadow concept to create bold alphabet canvases. Each canvas featured a letter of the alphabet and an image of an animal or object that started with that letter. Instead of using imagery that might be traditional for children in other parts of the world, we decided to use images that would be more familiar to most South African children.

Together we painted two full sets of alphabet canvases and donated them to Flying Children, a local charity that focuses on improving care for preschool children in under-served areas. The program places an emphasis on supporting orphans and disadvantaged kids by delivering skill-building workshops for teachers, parent training, aftercare service building, and more.

The sets took some time to make, and we actually spent much more than 67 minutes working. At the end, we were all proud to hand make something special to give to such an awesome charity. We know our hard work will benefit less than fortunate kids, and that means the world to us.
