Discovery 702 Walk the Talk July 2014

Discovery 702 Walk the Talk July 2014

Celebrating the 20th year of Democracy, what better way to celebrate this, than being joined by like-minded people. This was most definitely one on the biggest events that I have been part of since moving to Johannesburg May 2013. Happy to say that I was joined by an AWESOME, FUN, VIBY, and full of ZEAL team RapidStudio.

As we all gathered together, getting ready for our BIG walk, you could sense the excitement building up. The cold weather could not keep Team RapidStudio from having a fun filled walk. One thing that was an issue was the road blocks, lol, but not even that could hold us back. We were so ready to do this. Being able to unite in this way made the walk worthwhile, even getting cold for that matter was all worth it. I remember everyone moaned because their toes and hands were freezing as we walked toward the starting point.

At the starting point, everyone was singing and dancing. Seeing people with babies in prams, toddlers,  dogs - big and small - made the whole atmosphere so alive. Our team could not wait to start off. Finally…. It's 9am and the 8 km walkers were getting ready to move. We even had a countdown to kick start us. I was very impressed by the way things were organised. There were cameras all over, toilet facilities, stalls where dogs could quench their thirst, and Dr Victor kept the crowd moving with his music.  The whole crowd had a jump in their step. We all sang along, dancing and throwing our hands in the air. It was as if everybody forgot that they didn't know the person next to them, in front or behind them. The crowd was united in harmony.

We spotted some of our RapidStudio clients there too. In fact,  they spotted us wearing our bright yellow RapidStudio branded gear.  Thelma and I joined a customer and her family during the walk, as well as one of our Photographers. We had small chats, and enjoyed part of the day with them.

Our bright gear even scored us an interview on Super Sport. The team was super excited, and we made so much noise in front of the camera  that even the presenter got all fired up. Lol.  By now the cold air lifted a bit, and the sun peeked out. Our sunglasses were needed now. Some people had to get rid of the extra clothing as we all got heated up.

We’re passing the 6 km mark already and cannot believe the walk was almost over. This happens when you're have fun - time just flies by. On the road our team decided to make the walk more interesting for ourselves (and of course the people around us). We photo-bombed some people's "selfies" by jumping in and joining their picture. They had no choice but to laugh and give us high fives.
At the same time we used the opportunity to tell people about RapidStudio, where we’re from and what we do. It was fun, fun and more fun. …

Finally we reached the finish line. We were welcomed by live music and a vibrant crowd. The field just buzzed with people from all over. Everyone was rewarded with a medal. There were stations where the history of South Africa was displayed - the 20 years of being a democratic South Africa.

Yet another super-successful team building had come to and end. We are all looking forward to next year's 702 Walk the Talk. Our aim for 2015 is to enter a RapidStudio Team in every distance. As Mr Shaun Bowen said: "Next year we do it Bigger and Better". I am proud to be part of this amazing group of people.

A team is made out of individuals, working together as one body, and I believe RapidStudio nailed it!
